Elvis and I are both really tiredSo last we connected in May, I’d told you about how I got cancelled because I didn’t have enough blood to go into surgery. Let me catch you up. After a couple of weeks of just completely dragging ass and none of my doctor’s reaching out to follow-up after the cancelled procedure, I reached out to my gynocologist. I told them what happened and asked what I could do. They assured me that the heavy periods were definitely from being on blood thinners. Which gave me some relief since I was no longer taking them, but the reality was I was still so tired and couldn’t even do my morning walks without being just completely exhausted. I asked them what I could do. Maybe an iron infusion? Anything to give me some energy. They mulled my case over and then called later that day and said, “You need blood. We’ve got you scheduled for a transfusion tomorrow.” Wow. I ended up getting 2 pints of blood pumped into me and that did a world of good for my heart and my energy. But I’m still tired. As I sit here with you dear reader, I’m trying to give myself a mental and spiritual boost. In doing so, I started reminiscing about what has happened this past month. And as I think of these things, I have a smile on my face and hope in my heart. Here’s the list. Hope you find your hope, love, and joy that will sustain you as we roll into the dog days of summer. Today Ev and I went to Bloomin’ Fest out at Blooming Bus Farms. They were partnering with One Good Deed Michiana to help raise funds for a local family in need of love and support. The farm is beautiful. The proprietress is one of the best humans I know. Check it out if you’re in the area. Chuck has been walking with me every day this past week. It’s been so nice to have their company and undivided attention while we wander around the city we love so much, taking in the natural beauty of Niles, MI. Speaking of walks, yesterday Chuck and I were strolling along on the river front trail and a little kid who was walking with his family - couldn’t have been more than 4 years old - came up to me and said, “Here’s a wittle Jesus sticker for ya” I thanked him and we carried on. As I was walking away he said, “Do you twust in god?” We smiled and Chuck said to the parent, “Looks like god’s got a good spokesman.” It was a cute interaction. I think he trusted me because he and I were both talking to the squirrels. Many trips to Fernwood. Hank and I were there yesterday to take photos for On Base Productions since Chuck had another gig in Sturgis. We were there on Father's Day too. Never a bad time to be a Fernwood if you ask me. Read 4 books this month. The Haunting of Heatherhurst Hall by Sebastian Nothwell (Lesbian fiction set in Victorian England), The Worlds I See by Fei-Fei Li (a personal memoir and glimpse into the early days of AI development and her dedication to the ethical use of AI), Born to Flourish by Richard Davidson and Cortland Dahl (research and science backed information about how we are wired as humans to flourish), and finally Cherished Belonging by Father Gregory Boyle (lovely examples of flourishing joy through the tales of the homies and homegirls at Homeboy Industries). And an honorable mention - I’m reading Lord of the Rings in French before I fall asleep at night. It has me dreaming in French again sometimes, which is fun! Reached the milestone of logging 100 hours of coaching my clients! I applied to take the exam to get my ACC credentials from the International Coaching Federation. I mean, I’m already legit, but getting this will make me “Too legit to quit” as they say. Sat through the Movement Principles weekend training session with Ev. Ev is going to become a certified Pilates teacher too! I’m so proud of them for their commitment to the life well lived! Taught my Saturday Morning Movement classes all month. I look forward to Saturday Mornings every week to see my dedicated crew of movers! These have become so popular that we’re adding a Wednesday evening class. Check us out sometime! Worked my full-time job too. I’ve been given a couple of really fun projects that are keeping me busy and challenged. I’m leading a data hygiene project team and taking the lead on building out an internal AI Hub so that users can learn best practices from each other and be more efficient. You know, fun operations nerd stuff! Watching tons of World Cup matches. Never have I been interested in or watched a game in the past, but Ev got into it and brought me into this new world. It’s been really fun. We watch it on Telemundo, so the announcers are in Spanish and I know like a quarter of what they are saying. Motivates me to learn more! We had a homeschool graduation ceremony for Henry! I’ve never done this before, so we had to figure out all the details, but we did it. And Henry gave such a heart warming speech comparing his homeschooling education to jazz. So proud! One down, only one more to go (Ev graduates next year!). And we bought a new car! This time it was Chuck’s turn. They’ve always let me have the nicer, newer cars throughout the 22 years we’ve been together so this time they got to pick what made their heart happy. And that was a 2023 Ford Bronco. It’s so cute!
